Separation Anxiety

Are you feeling hopeless, lost, confused, or frustrated with how to help your dog with their separation anxiety?

Maybe you’re unsure if what you’re dealing with IS separation anxiety?

Separation anxiety is incredibly difficult to deal with as a guardian. Our program is here to help answer your questions and get your companion on a path to progress!

Separation anxiety is a quality-of-life issue for both the companion and the guardian.

We take it very seriously, especially when the anxiety becomes extreme and reaches clinical levels.

Many coping mechanisms exhibited by companions experiencing separation anxiety are a risk to their personal safety. Signs of clinical-level separation anxiety include:

  • Urinating/defecating when alone

  • Excessive drooling

  • Persistent howling/barking

  • Chewing/digging/destruction

  • Attempting to escape

  • Pacing/inability to settle

  • Coprophagia while alone (consuming feces)

How can we help you? We have multi-certified, separation anxiety specialists with CSAT-level certifications on staff and programs tailored specifically to help with these issues, as the training for separation anxiety is much different than other traditional forms of behavior modification. Coupled with the experienced team of behavior modification and dog training professionals on staff, we can address multiple different areas of your companion’s behavior in our program.

How does it work? Separation anxiety training is done entirely remotely, therefore we can help anyone, ANYWHERE in the world with these issues. The presence of a trainer in your home can skew the emotional state of your dog - for example, a dog that is excited or fearful of visitors will respond differently to training and departures. Therefore, we need to address the behavior in circumstances that mirror your daily life and routines and that is achieved through virtual coaching sessions.

Our separation anxiety programs offer intensive, DAILY support for struggling households, as well as live sessions with your trainer.

What is our philosophy? We use humane, force-free methods in ALL of our training and do not believe that intimidation, fear, or punishment is necessary to enact long-lasting behavior change. We also believe that your own self care is an important piece of the puzzle when addressing behavior issues with your companions.

Communication is also mission critical! We have a rich network of professionals that we network with to ensure success including other training professionals, veterinarians, and veterinary behaviorists. We believe that using a multi-disciplinary approach to achieve a common goal provides for the best outcomes. We are happy to communicate directly with your team of providers!

Lastly, we do NOT recommend ANY boarding facilities or board and train programs for companions with separation anxiety as the experience is overwhelming/flooding for them and can greatly exacerbate the issue. If you suspect your companion has clinical-level anxiety during periods of separation, we strongly recommend seeking out a trainer that is CSAT-certified and working on it privately, in your home - since this is where your companion feels the safest.

In many cases, aVeterinary Behaviorist may be recommended for companions experiencing separation anxiety.
